“The Council of the European Union – Public Register Of Authentic Identity And Travel Documents Online”
According to the PRADO website the public register is, “a multi-lingual site for disseminating information on security features of authentic identity and travel documents to the public.”
The PRADO website contains images and summary information on some of the most commonly used documents of the Member States of
the European Union and also of some third countries. The PRADO website is available in 22 official languages of the EU.
PRADO is regularly updated with information taken from the steadily growing FADO database.
- Each document is validated for correctness by document experts all over Europe.
- High quality translations are performed by specialised translators.
FADO (False and Authentic Documents Online) is a classified restricted system for the exchange of information between document experts on travel and identity documents. Part of the information on authentic documents contained in FADO is released to the public via the PRADO system.

As PRADO is open to the public it also now available for employers to check the features of passport and identity documents from all European Union countries, which is mentioned by the UK Border Agency.

PRADO is hosted by the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union (GSC), General Directorate for Justice and Home Affairs (DG D).
The information contained therein is selected and provided by the Member States of the European Union, Iceland and Norway. The steering committee in the GSC is the Working Party on Frontiers in the formation of False Documents Experts.
